Claim Timing

When Should You Hire a Public Adjuster?

Hire a public adjuster as early as you can on a significant loss — best of all before the insurance company's adjuster inspects, because that first inspection sets the scope everything else is measured against. It is also the right move after a denial, a lowball or partial payment, a claim that has gone quiet, or any fire, flood, storm, structural, or business interruption loss. Long Island Public Adjusters reviews Nassau and Suffolk County claims at no cost. Call 516-410-0164.

Signs It Is Time to Call

Your claim was denied or partially denied
The offer does not cover contractor bids
The carrier has gone quiet for weeks
Damage is structural or involves multiple trades
You have been asked for a sworn proof of loss
You cannot live in or operate from the property
Hidden damage showed up after repairs started
The loss is large enough to change your finances

Best Time to Hire, Stage by Stage

Right after the loss — the strongest position

We document the damage before cleanup, set the scope, and meet the carrier's adjuster with an estimate already in hand. Nothing gets thrown out before it is recorded.

After the inspection, before the offer

Still very effective. We review the carrier's scope, find the missing line items, and supplement before the number is locked in.

After a denial or lowball offer

We read the denial language against your policy, rebuild the scope, and push back in writing. See denied claim review and underpaid claims.

    After you were already paid

Often still possible. Supplemental claims and reopened claims are normal when hidden damage appears or the original estimate missed work, as long as the policy's time limits are open.

When You Probably Do Not Need One

If the damage is minor, close to your deductible, or the insurer's estimate already matches real contractor pricing, you may not need help. We will tell you that on the phone rather than take a claim that does not need us.

    Before You Call the Carrier

    • Photograph and video everything
    • Stop further damage, keep receipts
    • Do not discard damaged property
    • Write down dates and names
    • Read your declarations page
