Had a massive branch or a whole tree come down on your roof during a storm here on Long Island? Before you hire a tree service to haul it away, you need to know how insurance handles tree damage.
Here is the rule of thumb: If a tree falls and damages a covered structure—like your roof, your garage, or your fence—standard homeowners insurance covers the cost to repair the structural damage and usually covers the cost of removing the tree off that structure.
However, if a healthy tree crashes down and just lands out in your open yard or lawn without hitting a structure, insurance generally will not pay for its removal.
Insurance companies will also try to deny your claim if they argue the tree was 'dead or rotting' before the storm, claiming you ignored maintenance.
Don't let them stick you with the bill for storm repairs. If a tree damaged your home anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk County, call or text me, Kevin Godfrey, at 516-410-0164 for a free claim review.
